Setting up FAQs
General Ability Index (GAI) is accepted because it can provide a better measure of a person's reasoning ability when certain factors unrelated to intelligence affect parts of a full-scale IQ score.
Consider someone who is blind. A blind person is not inherently less intelligent, less logical, or less capable of understanding complex ideas simply because they cannot process visual information. Their inability to perform certain visually dependent tasks reflects a lack of access to that information, not a lack of reasoning ability.
Similarly, some individuals may have cognitive profiles where specific factors—such as processing speed, working memory, attention difficulties, or other conditions—reduce their Full Scale IQ score despite strong reasoning abilities. In these cases, the General Ability Index can provide a more accurate representation of their underlying intellectual capacity by placing greater emphasis on reasoning and problem-solving skills.
Our goal is to identify intellectual ability, not to penalize individuals for limitations that may affect how information is received, processed, or expressed. We therefore recognize GAI as a valid measure when it better reflects a person's true reasoning ability.
Our mission is to connect as many highly capable people as possible. To achieve that, we prefer an approach that is inclusive rather than unnecessarily restrictive.
No admission system is perfect. If the threshold is set extremely high, you may reduce the chance of admitting a few people who do not belong—but you also exclude many intelligent, interesting, and valuable individuals who would contribute positively to the community.
We believe the greater risk is not allowing too many people in. The greater risk is failing to connect people who could have benefited from meeting one another.
A larger network creates more opportunities for friendship, collaboration, discussion, professional connections, and community building. Every genuine member who joins increases the value of the network for everyone else.
For that reason, we are willing to accept a small amount of uncertainty in exchange for creating a larger, more vibrant, and more accessible community. In practice, a community with thousands of capable and engaged members will create far more value than a perfectly filtered community that remains small and isolated.
Our goal is not to build the most exclusive club possible. Our goal is to build the most useful, connected, and welcoming network of highly capable people possible.
We take document verification seriously and review submissions carefully before approval. While no verification system is perfect, we make a genuine effort to identify inconsistencies, altered documents, and other signs of fraud.
It is important to recognize that any documentation can, in theory, be forged. This is true not only for Q99, but for virtually every high-IQ society and organization that relies on submitted records. No organization can guarantee with absolute certainty that every document is authentic.
Our goal is therefore not to promise perfection, but to maintain a level of screening and review that is comparable to other respected high-IQ societies.
If we discover that a member has intentionally submitted fraudulent documentation, their membership will be revoked immediately and they will receive a lifetime ban from Q99. Where appropriate and legally permissible, we may also notify other high-IQ societies of confirmed cases of fraud. If criminal activity such as document forgery is involved, we reserve the right to report the matter to the relevant authorities.
Ultimately, Q99 is built on trust, integrity, and a shared commitment to honesty. The vast majority of applicants join because they genuinely wish to connect with others, and we expect members to represent themselves truthfully.
